Brooklyn Lagoy, 3, of Opelika dressed as SuperGirl and Gabriel Smith, 5, of Opelika, as Wolverine, get candy from Debbie Purves at her home on 8th Street in Opelika. Children in Opelika and Auburn celebrated Halloween Thursday evening, even though the holiday isn’t until Saturday. Neighborhoods in Opelika welcomed the candy-hungry monsters, while downtown Auburn and its merchants hosted a family-oriented trick-or-treat event with live music and activities. For more photos of Thursday’s festivities, see Friday’s Opelika-Auburn News.
