Federal, state officials urge fireworks safety

MONTGOMERY, Be careful with fireworks over the July Fourth holiday weekend.
In many municipalities fireworks are illegal and can result in jail time or a fine.
Dry conditions persist across the state and experts say it’s a good idea to leave the pyrotechnics to the professionals.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the most common injuries from fireworks are burns. Adults are urged to closely supervise children who may play with fireworks and always keep water handy.
Meanwhile, the U-S-D-A Forest Service urges campers to keep fire safety in mind in one of the state’s national forests. It is also illegal to set off fireworks in a national forest.
