Lee County Schools, in conjunction with the Alabama Department of Public Health, will offer the flu mist vaccine for H1N1 to students in grades pre-K through third grade, beginning Dec. 2.

The schedule is as follows:

* Smiths Station Primary School, Wednesday, Dec. 2.

* Beauregard Elementary, Thursday, Dec. 3.

* Smiths Station Elementary, Friday, Dec. 4.

Vaccinations will be given beginning at 9 a.m. CST each day.

Flu Mist is a live virus and cannot be given to students with underlying medical conditions such as chronic pulmonary (including asthma), cardiovascular (except hypertension), renal, hepatic, neurological/neuromuscular, hematological, or metabolic disorders (including diabetes mellitus).

Students with any of the above health issues may either see their primary care provider or go to the Lee County Health Department on Tuesday, Dec. 1 from 3 to 6 p.m. CST to receive the injectable H1N1 vaccination.

All students less than 10 years old will need to receive two doses of the vaccine, at least 28 days apart.
