After an hour of deliberations Friday, a Lee County jury has found Barry Lee Jones guilty of capital murder.
The defense rested Friday morning after calling one witness, a woman who lives on Toomers Court in Opelika, where Jones, his wife and two children lived on Dec. 11, 2007. The state called numerous witnesses since Wednesday.
Jones was charged with capital murder, sexual assault, sodomy and rape in connection with the death of his infant son, Kevin, and injury to a young non-relative girl on that day nearly two years ago.
After hearing closing arguments from the state and defense, Circuit Court Judge Jacob A. Walker III took more than 30 minutes to give the 16-member jury its instructions before deliberations. He dismissed four of them and sent the remaining jurors to a different room to deliberate.
