Some local children got their pictures taken with Santa on Saturday at Jernigan’s Photography in Opelika after donating to a good cause.
Jernigan’s Photography asked children and parents who wanted to have pictures taken with Santa to bring five cans of non-perishable food items to be donated to the Food Bank of East Alabama.
In return for the food, children received a session with Santa.
The event lasted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., but by 1 p.m., about 30 families had made a visit with the jolly one.
“It’s very exciting to have all this turn out,” said Susan Sorrells, senior manager of Jernigan’s. “It’s the first year we’ve offered the food drive.“
Sorrells said Charlie Jernigan, owner of Jernigan’s, came up with the idea.
“Charlie heard that the food bank hadn’t been doing good this year,” she said. “He wanted to partner with them.”
Kyndall McCracken, 4, was one of many children to have her photo taken with Santa on Saturday.
“We just thought it was a great idea to get her picture with Santa,” Kyndall’s mother, Kerrie McCracken, said. “And at the same time help out with the food drive.”
