Opelika fireman of the year to be honored

The Opelika fireman of the year will be honored at 7 p.m. tonight at the Opelika City Council meeting.
Opelika fire Capt. K. Phillip Hope will receive the award and a check from the city. Opelika Assistant Fire Chief James Morgan said Hope has been with the department for 22 years.
“He’s been outstanding,” Morgan said. “He’s done a very good job.”
In addition to his 22 years of service, Hope is a recruit and CPR instructor, Morgan said.
Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller, who will recognize Hope, said the award is selected by the Opelika Exchange Club.
The following items will appear on Tuesday’s agenda:
- A presentation of employee performance awards.
- Appreciation resolutions for Mike Thomas, Alberta Boyd and Guy Rhodes.
- A request for the annual Christmas Parade at 4 p.m. on Dec. 4.
- Resolutions to authorize the demolition at 1703 Old Columbus Road, 11 Oak Court, 1107 Magnolia St., 1621 4th Ave., 1623 4th Ave. and 1625 4th Ave.
The Opelika City Council meets the first and third Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at City Hall in downtown Opelika.
