Opelika man arrested in connection with rape of 90-year-old woman

An Opelika man has been arrested and charged in connection with the rape of a 90-year-old woman, according to authorities.
Opelika police arrested Anthony James Vines, 42, at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, according to Opelika police Capt. Allan Elkins.
Vines was charged with rape in the first degree, burglary in the first degree and theft of property in the second degree, Elkins said.
According to the police report, forced entry was made at a door at the victim’s home located in the 1600 block of 5th Avenue between 5:30 and 6 a.m. Sunday.
The victim also reported a Smith & Wesson .38-caliber pistol was taken from the residence. The victim received minor injuries during the incident, including to her left foot, Elkins said.
No other details were available. The case remains under investigation by the Opelika Police Department.
