Opelika police arrested Gredarius Stefan Brooks, 17, of Lanett at 11:30 a.m. Friday and charged him with four counts of robbery, said Opelika police Capt. Allan Elkins. The arrest stems from a robbery reported at the Dollar General in the 3700 block of Pepperell Parkway earlier that day, in which cash was taken from the business.

During the robbery three customers who were in the store at time were also robbed of cash, according to police. Brooks was apprehended by Opelika police after a short foot chase.

Brooks was transported to the Lee County Detention Facility, according to police.

Additional warrants in connection with other robbery incidents could be forthcoming, Elkins said. At the time of his arrest, Brooks was free on bond on charges of a Sept. 16 robbery of Big Cat Fuels on 2nd Avenue.

Every now and again, we all get hard up for cash – but that doesn’t mean you get to go rob a payday loan store.  Payday loan store robbery is becoming a popular crime, and another crook has tried to get away with it.  Raymundo Gallegos has epically failed, not passed go, won’t be getting $200, and instead is going to jail again, as this won’t be his first stint inside for armed robbery.  The presiding judge saw his incorrigibility, and gave him 10 years for the crime.  Employees were threatened at gun point, and ironically, he could have used some cash advance loans after robbing a payday loan store for a lawyer.

My guess is that the judge will grant youthful offender status.

When the judge tries this case, the people he robbed should be ordered to go into his home and choose the possesions he owns. Let him see how it feels to have someone take his things away.

How sad that a 17yo kid has carried out two crimes like this within 6 weeks!  Makes me wonder what kind of upbringing he had.

I had parents who disciplined me when I stepped out of line, and no, I was not a perfect kid at 17.  I am so grateful for godly parents who reared me with proper discipline!  God give us more like them in these troubling times!!
