The motive is unclear in an early morning shooting Sunday that has left an Auburn woman with life-threatening injuries and landed an 18-year-old in jail.

According to information provided by the Auburn Police Division, Stephanie R. Anderson, 20, was found inside a bedroom suffering from a single, life-threatening gunshot wound to the face.

Anderson was transported to East Alabama Medical Center, a press release issued by the APD, said. She was then airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

She is currently listed in critical condition in the UAB intensive care unit, said Bob Shepard, media relations for UAB.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family,” Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson said.

Carl D. Martin, of Auburn, has been charged with first-degree assault after he was caught fleeing the scene on foot minutes later with another man.
The man was questioned and released.

A second woman inside the residence was not injured during the altercation, the release said.

A handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was also recovered at the scene, the release said.

Martin was taken to the Lee County Detention Center where he awaits bond, the release said. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Auburn police at 334-501-3140 or anonymously on the tip line at 334-501-7337.
