An Opelika store was robbed by men armed with handguns for the second time in two days, according to police.

People suddenly were getting salmonella at a Minnesota restaurant more than 1,000 miles from the center of the nation’s outbreak.After tracing credit card receipts — to find what the restaurant’s healthy customers didn’t eat — there was good evidence that the jalapenos were sickening people. This gave officials a way of tracing the pepper shipments all the way back to three farms in Mexico.
Levees hold but waters rise in Dolly’s rains
Hurricane Dolly slammed ashore and then loitered over deep south Texas as a tropical storm, dumping as much as a foot of rain in places and ripping roofs off buildings with 100 mph winds.Dolly had weakened to a tropical storm by 10 p.m. CDT Wednesday after hitting South Padre Island around midday as a Category 2 hurricane. The National Weather Service expected Dolly to weaken to a tropical depression, turn to the northwest and accelerate slightly Thursday.
2 Atlanta men linked to string of bank robberies
Two Atlanta men accused of participating in a string of bank robberies in at least five states are in custody. The U.S. Marshals Service said 25-year-old Malik Rahmel Dillard was captured Monday in New Jersey while 24-year-old Zarqurous Lequis Sanders was arrested Tuesday in Lincoln. Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis said both men were charged with the June 10 holdup of M&F Bank.

Cashier tied up, Opelika store robbed
An employee at Miscelanea Guate Mex in Opelika reported being tied up at gunpoint and forced into a back room Tuesday afternoon by three men who then robbed the business, according to Opelika police Capt. Allan Elkins. The men reportedly took approximately $200 from the cash register, Elkins said.
Man injured during robbery in Opelika
A man was robbed at gunpoint and injured Tuesday afternoon at the Oakwood Apartments in the 300 block of 16th Place, according to Opelika police Capt. Allan Elkins. Two men robbed the victim of his driver’s license and approximately $60, Elkins said. The victim also reported being struck in the back of the head with a pistol, Elkins said.

Hurricane Dolly bears down on Texas-Mexico coast
Rain started to fall along the Gulf Coast as Hurricane Dolly closed in on towns straddling the Texas-Mexico border, packing 85 mph winds that could strengthen when it hits land later Wednesday. The Category 1 hurricane was expected to dump up to 15 inches of rain, threatening flooding that could breach levees in the heavily populated Rio Grande valley. Dolly was upgraded from a tropical storm Tuesday afternoon.
