14-year-old arrested in Opelika robbery

A 14-year-old in Opelika was arrested Monday in connection to a robbery with a pistol, according to authorities. The victim was robbed at gunpoint of two cell phones, five DVDs and an unknown amount of change around 9:15 p.m., according to Opelika police Capt. Allan Elkins.

The singer was rushed to the hospital’s emergency room by ambulance from her north London home Monday night.

In the impoverished neighborhood of South Los Angeles, fast food is the easiest cuisine to find — and that’s a problem for elected officials who see it as an unhealthy source of calories and cholesterol. The aim of the yearlong moratorium, which was approved last week in committee, is to give the city time to try to attract restaurants that serve healthier food. The California Restaurant Association says the moratorium is misguided.

A Madison County corrections officer has been arrested in south Alabama after federal authorities say he tried to use the Internet to have sex with a minor. Fifty-five-year-old James Norbert Stracke has been charged with soliciting a minor for a sex act and attempting to transfer obscene materials to a minor.

Huntsville man arrested for drunken boating

A Huntsville man was jailed after he soaked a Marine Police officer with the wake of his personal watercraft while intoxicated. Officer Larry Adams said he was finishing paperwork on his patrol boat on the Tennessee River Saturday afternoon when 53-year-old Thacker Johnson Smith sped past him, drenching the officer. Adams said Smith, who looked up at him from the water and grinned, was nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit.
