An Opelika resident was reportedly robbed at gunpoint of a camera and cash at noon Thursday, according to police. The victim was allegedly robbed of $10 and a digital camera in a wooded area behind Pop’s Trailer Park off South Long Street, according to Opelika police Capt. Allan Elkins.

Former governor asks appeals court to throw out conviction

Former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman asked a federal appeals court Thursday to overturn his conviction in a government corruption case.
In an 84-page motion, Siegelman’s attorneys asked the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to order the former Democratic governor acquitted of all charges or grant him a new trial. Siegelman and former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy were convicted in June 2006 of bribery and other charges.
