FORT HOOD, Texas — The U.S. Army says 12 people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting rampage on the Fort Hood Army base in Texas.

Lt. Gen Bob Cone said at a news conference that one shooter has been killed and two suspects were apprehended on Thursday. He says they are all U.S. soldiers.

The shooting began around 1:30 p.m. Cone says that all the casualties took place at the base’s Soldier Readiness Center where soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening.

He says the primary shooter used two handguns in the attack.

“The initial reports and reporting were pretty much totally inaccurate as to this facet. This seems to be yet another lesson as to letting an investigation run its course before we weigh in with answers.“ ~ Captain Plaid

Captain, While many of the initial reports were inaccurate much more has come to light about Major Hasan.  Please use these links to find out why this man is & should be treated as a home-grown terrorist.

The first link is to a Washington Post article containing a power point presentation that Maj. Hasan made at an Army doctors’ conference.  The second is a link to a conference call with Rep. Hoekstra which was made yesterday in which he states that while treating returning Iraq & Afghanistan war veterans Major Hasan requested of his superiors to have some of his patients tried for war crimes.  Not only does that fly in the face of doctor/patient privileged information it is wholly un-American.

When is the last time the government investigated anything fairly?

AmGen, Not to minimize the valor of Fort Hood Police Officer Kimberly Munley which we both mentioned earlier but I trust you’ve read reports that Senior Sergeant Mark Todd was actually the one who engaged and disarmed MAJ Hasan. The initial reports and reporting were pretty much totally inaccurate as to this facet. This seems to be yet another lesson as to letting an investigation run its course before we weigh in with answers.

Captain,

Not to worry, I have not sent any money to the Middle East Forum.  I am a member & receive their newsletters.  I also have a dear friend who was recently asked to apply for a job as a legal adviser to the Forum.  He did not get the job though eminently qualified, I helped him with his application and through that process became familiar with the Forum and was impressed with the work they do.  I do not know the financial situation, but will “scratch around” as you suggest.  Thank you for the concern.

God bless you, my friend.

HBD-You and I usually don’t have similar opinions, but I do listen to you and I do appreciate that we can have rational, respectful discussions.  So, yes, I consider you one of my “OA News friends,“ as I say to my husband.

All the best!

mpb3- I am a bit surprised you called me an OA News friend; as much as we have disagreed and debated.

I have learned much during our “conversations” and I feel like I know all you guys even though we have never met.

I hope we all continue to debate, discuss, and argue the issues in a respectful way. Even though we disagree on many issues, I have respect for people who voice their beliefs.

After all we are all Americans and human beings. Take care and have a great week.

AnGen, I don’t dismiss Professor Pipes’ academic credentials as I think even his harshest critics accept they are legit. He pretty much left academia (I’ll not count a brief visit at Ken Starr’s Pepperdine) several years ago and is hardly lacking in funding, including apparently some from you even.

Professor Pipes was buttering his bread back in the 1980s at the Foreign Policy Research Institute warning of the Communists, centered of course on the USSR.  He perhaps needed a new villain given how all that worked out?  He also may have decided that he could harvest some of the abundant right wing foundation money for his own outfits.

As a slight aside, I visited the Southern Poverty Law Center’s pages this weekend and noted how they had available to the public audited financial statements plus their most recent tax return.  I did not easily find that sort of transparency on the Mideast Forums pages but trust if it is there you’d be able to supply a link.

Nor do I dismiss Professor Pipes’ ideas because they are different from the vast majority of opinions in what you call the MSM and I at times label as the corporate media. Many of those whose opinions I value depart from the same.  I’d like to think I’ve dismissed them because I’ve considered them and found them wanting.  I found them also very dangerous and disturbing.

If you’re sending him money I’m sure it would be hard to stomach alternative views and I certainly agree you’re entitled to your opinion.  However, I do hope you’ll scratch around so that you might see just how controversial his work is to many, many people.

mpb3,
I’m sure all the folks you invited to another thread are waiting with baited breath for your pearls of wisdom, so by all means continue your unfounded attacks on people instead of responding intelligently.  You make my case for your arrogance far better than I ever could.

Captain,
Once again we disagree, but I respect your opinion.  Personally, I have read many of Daniel Pipes’ writings as I am a member of the Mideast Forum.

One may disagree with his evaluation, but one cannot besmirch his credentials or his opinions simply based on the fact that they differ from the MSM’s.  The MSM has failed miserably on more than one occasion to inform in an intelligent unbiased manner, and continues to do so on a regular basis. That is my opinion and I would hope that you would continue to respect that I am entitled to it as I very much respect that you are entitled to yours.

Continued prayers for your safety and thanks for your service.
