There’s nothing like a thriller to kickoff the college football season. Like it or not, the last four minutes of Saturday’s Auburn-Kansas State game were very entertaining.
That’s what I love about college football. It’s not over until your listening to a coach’s postgame press conference.
Auburn pulled out a big win Saturday. But there are still a lot of questions left to be answered. Should the Tigers have struggled that much against Kansas State? Depends. K-State is a lot better than I thought. But where is Auburn?
More questions.
I think they are a team struggling for an identity and will need a lot more players who aren’t named Brandon Cox, Quentin Groves and Wes Byrum to step up and make some plays.
Tommy Tuberville said it best ... it wasn’t pretty, but it was a win.
And this Auburn team is going to be forced to win ugly a lot this year. Especially with games at Florida, Arkansas, LSU and Georgia. Because as far as road schedules go, it doesn’t get any uglier than that.

Brandon Cox was hit and landed hard on his right (non-throwing) shoulder at the end of that series after throwing and incomplete to Robert Dunn. Cox is being worked on vigorously on the sideline and Blake Field is warming up. This doesn’t look good for the Tigers. If Cox is hurt, it’s bad.

Auburn could be in trouble.
10-6.
And for the first time, I can hear the Kansas State crowd, a good 5,000-plus, over Auburn’s band.
Not that whoever’s fans cheer louder means anything, but the Tigers are on their heels right now. And if the offense can’t put together a drive—their first of the second half—it could stay 10-6. Forever.

OK, so I’ve been worrying about how Lee Ziemba’s going to do, and haven’t said a word about King Dunlap. So far, Dunlap’s given up two sacks, by my count. Ziemba 1.
And that last one by almost got Brandon Cox killed.
And there’s another one.
I said it before, Brandon might not make it through the season.

Like I said, Cox is going to need to settle down, just like he did on that big play to Rod Smith. Also, good block by Tommy Trott, springing Smith for an extra 15-20 yards.
