The AHSAA’s Central Board approved the 2010-12 football alignments today. And boy, did some interesting things happen:

All the area 6As are the same: But Russell County dropped down to 5A, making Region 3 a 7-team region. Which brings me to…

Beauregard dropped down to 4A: With Russell County filling its place in Region 2. Valley, Tallassee and BTW stayed put. Which brings me to…

Dadeville moved up to 4A: And is in Beauregard’s region (Region 3), along with Calera, Childersburg, Elmore Co., Holtville, Lincoln and Munford

Beulah stayed in 3A: but now inhabits a region including defending champs Leeds, current 2A power Clay County and current 4A power Handley. Ouch.

LaFayette moved down to 2A: And is now in Region 5 with Lanett and Reeltown, making those three our only North teams. Reeltown is north? What a country.

Loachapoka and Notasulga stayed put: but the region number changed to “3.“ And they also welcome St. Jude, which is a 2A playoff team this season.
