Auburn High freshman midfielder Jack Goldberg (pictured above) and senior keeper James Pudner both earned honorable mention nods on the Birmingham News’ All-State boys soccer team, released today.

Pudner was a three-year starter at the back for the Tigers, and recorded 12 clean sheets in his senior season as Auburn advanced to the state semifinals and finished with a 19-4-2 record. He will attend Auburn University next year and try out for the club soccer team.

Goldberg scored 10 goals from his midfield position this season, including the winning strike in the Tigers’ 1-0, double-overtime victory over rival Prattville in the quarterfinals. Goldberg will play club and Olympic Development Program soccer in Georgia this summer, as well as traveling to Boston in July to compete for the United States Youth Soccer Association Under-16 national championship with his club team.

More on this in tomorrow’s paper…
