Those three at the top are Beauregard’s Hayden Hillyer and Auburn High’s Reid Carter and Matt Cimo.

They won the OA News All-Area baseball 2009 sweepstakes. Their prize? A picture in the paper and junk.

Hillyer, a senior outfielder, is the Hitter of the Year. Read more about him here.

Carter? Well, he’s the Pitcher of the Year. Read more about the senior           right                       here.

And Cimo is the Coach of the Year. And more information pertaining to his person can be found at this location.

For a word on my methodology in picking these teams, check out my softball post from yesterday.

And here is your first team (you can also look at it here):

— Scott Norrell, Sr., P, Auburn (6A): Went 8-0 with a 1.98 ERA, allowed 4.6 hits per seven innings.

— Cody Weems, Sr., C, Beauregard (5A): 1st-team All-State, hit .340 with 10 home runs, slugged school-record .777.

As with softball, there were a couple of players that it pained me just a little to leave off the team. Here are my top three near misses:

— Stevie Argo, Sr., OF/P, Glenwood (AISA): Honorable mention All-State, hit .416 and went 9-2 with a 2.20 ERA.
— Quinn Harrelson, Jr., OF, Dadeville (3A): Honorable mention All-State, hit .395 with three home runs and 39 RBI.
— Rory Spurlock, Sr., P, Springwood (AISA): Went 5-1 with a 0.89 ERA and 80 strikeouts.

So there you have it. Thanks again to all the coaches for all the information and players for making themselves available for the pictures.

And again Vasha Hunt and Cliff Williams for being able to figure out aperture width, lighting and all that good stuff. Because I sure can’t.
