Hurricane Ike roared across Cuba on Monday, tearing off roofs and sending waves crashing into buildings, as 900,000 Cubans fled to shelters or higher ground and Havana residents in decaying historic buildings prepared for a direct hit.
Fla. Keys residents weigh evacuation ahead of Ike
As a ferocious Hurricane Ike ripped across Cuba, a tropical storm warning was issued for the Florida Keys early Monday. Residents from Key West to the Gulf Coast watched Ike’s unpredictable path, worrying it could hit anywhere in the U.S. from Texas to Florida.

Atlantic Coast watches Hanna’s shifting trek
Coastal residents moved boats and booked inland hotel rooms while National Guard troops prepared to deploy along the Southeastern coast as Tropical Storm Hanna plowed through the Atlantic on a shifting track toward the U.S. The uncertain path of the storm, which may become a hurricane by the time it hits land sometime Saturday.
Lights off, but New Orleans residents coming home
City and state officials tried to hold them off, but New Orleans residents would have none of it. After Hurricane Gustav brushed by the city, they wanted back in, and now. So Mayor Ray Nagin relented and allowed the first of them to begin streaming in from evacuation Wednesday.

New Orleans residents to return to no power
Enter at your own risk, New Orleans. That was the message from Mayor Ray Nagin, who gave residents the go-ahead to return to the Crescent City early Thursday, but with several warnings — many homes were without electricity or working toilets and a dusk-to-dawn curfew would still be in effect.
Hanna expected to move over the Bahamas
A day after sending Haitian families scrambling onto rooftops to avoid flooding, Tropical Storm Hanna was meandering off the country’s northern coast Wednesday, dumping heavy rain on much of Hispaniola. But Hanna was expected to begin moving over the Bahamas later in the day.

Hurricane Hanna threatens US southeast coast
Hurricane Hanna was moving little early Tuesday as its rains drenched the southeastern Bahamas along with the Turks and Caicos Islands. The hurricane also threatened to hit the southeast United States later in the week. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Ike was headed toward the Caribbean

ALDOT official: Gustav evacuee traffic manageable
