With the official start of practice coming up this weekend, the Auburn women’s basketball team has been selected in the preseason Top 25 by another national publication.
The Sporting News College Basketball Preview tabbed the Tigers No. 23 in the nation in its preseason poll, marking the third top-25 appearance for AU in the preseason.
The Lindy’s College Basketball Preview picked the Tigers as No. 19 in the nation, while the Athlon Sports Preview tabbed Auburn at No. 22.
Auburn was the third SEC team picked in the poll as defending national champion Tennessee came in at No. 7, followed by Vanderbilt at No. 15. Connecticut was selected as the top team in the nation in the poll.
Senior DeWanna Bonner also picked up another preseason honor as she was selected to the Sporting News Women’s All-America Second Team. Bonner was the top SEC player on the teams as Vanderbilt’s Christina Wirth and Florida’s Marshae Dotson were selected to the third team.
Bonner also earned recognition in the Lindy’s and Athlon Sports preseason All-America teams, earning first team honors from Athlon and second-team from Lindy’s.
The preview comes out as the Tigers prepare for their first official team practice Saturday at the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. Auburn returns eight letterwinners and four starters from last season’s squad and is set to open its season with an exhibition game against Anderson University at 2 p.m., Nov. 9 in the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum.
The regular season is slated to open on the road at Alabama A&M on Nov. 14, with the home opener against Temple following on Nov. 17.
The Tigers are coming off a 20-12 campaign as well as their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2004.
