Danley named Tuskegee athletic director

TUSKEGEE — Tuskegee University President Benjamin F. Payton announced the appointment of former Auburn assistant athletic director Stacy L. Danley II as the new athletic director at the institution on Friday.

In this position, Danley will report and be responsible to the President for the effective and efficient operations of the total athletic program and will work closely with the Vice President for University Advancement in funds development for the athletic department.

“Mr. Danley has an excellent background and experience for the athletic director position,” Payton said in a statement. “He has extensive experience with NCAA and conference regulatory compliance issues, public relations and fundraising. He also has strong prior engagements with administering athletic programs.

“He will, most importantly, assist in our mission to provide a hight-quality education to all of our students, whether they are involved in athletics or not.”

Danley expressed enthusiasm, looking forward to his new duties at Tuskegee University.

“It’s an exciting time for Tuskegee University sports,” said Danley, an alumnus of Auburn University. “The time is right. We have the history and momentum to move forward. The teams here will undoubtedly continue to achieve championship honors while displaying the principles of this university.”

Danley has served the Southeastern Conference in the areas of compliance and championships/events management. He most recently served as associate athletic director /men’s sports coordinator at Auburn, where he was previously associate athletic director for external affairs. He has participated in compliance seminars on both the regional and national levels, and has attended four NCAA conventions.

Danley is a member of the Black Coaches Association, the National Advising Association, the National Consortium for Academics and Sports, and the Greater Lee County 100 Black Men. He is married to Stephanie Danley, an educator in the Auburn public school system. They have three sons.
