The Auburn High volleyball team beat Opelika, 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 24-23), on Wednesday night.

Leading the way for Auburn High was Tarnesha Stephens with 15 kills, eight digs and a block. Hannah Birdsong had seven kills, seven aces, one dig and one block, while Hayden Pangle had six kills, six aces and two digs.

Leah Zutter added 26 assists, six digs, two kills, two blocks and an ace for the Tigers (18-15, 4-1) and Emme Hauberg chipped in with 11 digs and two aces.

Auburn will travel to Smiths Station today.

AHS cross country to host Tiger Classic
Friday afternoon at Kiesel Park, the Auburn High boys and girls cross country teams will host the Tiger Classic.

Ten varsity teams will compete in the 5k meet, including Auburn, Opelika, Smiths Station, Central-Phenix City, Russell County, Benjamin
Russell, Dadeville, Montgomery Academy, Montgomery Catholic and Providence Christian.

The varsity girls meet will start at 4:15 p.m., with the varsity boys following at 4:45.

The junior high girls will start at 5:15 and the junior high boys will follow at 4:45. There will be four junior high teams competing.

This past weekend, the Auburn High cross country teams competed in the Mountain Brook Invitational, with the varsity boys and girls each finishing third overall.

Patrick Gomez won the boys individual title with a time of 16:13. For the girls, Lauren Jones took ninth individually (21:24) and Courtney Ruggles finished 10th (21:26).

Auburn’s junior varsity boys finished second overall, with Blake Helmke leading the way with a second-place finish (18:56), while Steven Head took fourth (19:10).

The JV girls took third overall, with Jenna Muschora finishing fifth (23:30).
