AREA ROUNDUP: Lee-Scott sweeps Lakeside
EUFAULA — Lee-Scott’s boys and girls basketball teams swept Lakeside on the road Thursday, with the girls pulling out a squeaker, 37-35, and the boys doubling up the Chiefs, 90-45.
Melissa Maddox led the Warriors’ girls (3-0), scoring 17 points and pulling down seven rebounds, Gabby George scored 9, Savannah Starr had 12 rebounds to go along with her 4 points, and Breanne DeBaets added 6.
MarQuen Mitchell led the Warriors (2-1) with 11 points in only a half of duty, Cameron Carleton and Jimmy Green each scored 10, and Micah Pointer added 9 to go along with three rebounds.
Lee-Scott returns to action Monday at the Evangel Thanksgiving Tournament in Montgomery, with the girls taking on Lowndes at 3 p.m. and the boys following at 4:30.
Glenwood boys fall in opener
PHENIX CITY — The Gators’ boys basketball team lost, 64-37, to Griffin Christian (Ga.), in its season opener Thursday night.
Devan Kelly and Thrift Barringer led Glenwood with 7 points each, while Elliott Lynn scored 5 to go along with his 10 rebounds.
Glenwood hosts Strong Rock Christian on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Smiths Station wrestling starts off with sweep
The Panthers’ wrestling team started its season on a high note Thursday, beating Russell County, 71-3, and Central, 58-24.
Bradley Martin (103 pounds), Anthony Green (112), Andrew Wilkins (119), Nick Ullery (130), Colby Jones (135), Tim Hester (145), Kyle Bruffy (152), Andrew Rains (171), Troy Phillips (189), Nathan McConnell (215) and Earnest Cowels (285) all posted wins for the Panthers against the Warriors.
Martin, Green, Justin Davis (119), Wilkins, Kali Kalilla (140), Hester, Bruffy, Tom Scott (215) and Cowels also won against Central.
Quincy Lewis (130), Ryan Ward (135), James Matthew (171) and Devonta Cobb (189) posted wins for the Red Devils.
Opelika 8th graders win
The Opelika Middle School 8th grade boys basketball team defeated Long Cane Middle, 33-24, on Thursday.
Aldreecous Wilson led scorers with 8 points, Shontrez Tolbert had 7, and three other players each added 4.
Beulah 7th graders pull out win
BEULAH — The Bobcats’ seventh grade boys basketball team squeaked past Wacoochee on Thursday, 17-15.
B.J. Malone led Beulah with 8, Antonio Brown had 4, Tyler Fender chipped in 3, and Dustin Hudmon rounded out the scoring with 2 to go along with 13 rebounds.
The Bobcats’ eighth graders lost a close one, 37-36, to the Panthers.
Corey Davis led the team with 15 points, Davis Lamb had 9 points and 14 rebounds, Shawn Morgan scored 5 to go along with 11 boards, and Trevon Brown added 4.
Beulah’s seventh grade girls also lost, 27-15, to Wacoochee.
The Bobcats return to action Monday against Dadeville.
