AREA ROUNDUP: Beauregard takes Region win over Rehobeth

REHOBETH - According to Beauregard head coach Smitty Grider, there were two things the Hornets had Friday night that Rehobeth didn’t. Speed and Ameriol Finley.

Beauregard’s quarterback rushed for 149 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns. He also was 5-for-7 passing for 193 yards and a score in the Hornets’ 33-14 win.

Kris James also had a big night for Beauregard (2-1, 2-0 Class 5A-Region 2), hauling in two catches for 110 yards and a rushing touchdown. James also returned a kickoff 90 yards for a score.

Derrick Porter had three catches for 85 yards and a score to cap the night for the Hornets, who host Eufaula next Friday. Eufaula entered this week at No. 1 in 5A, but lost to Tallasssee, 20-17.

“We’ve got a big game next week,” Grider said. “ But we’re playing them one at a time. We faced a lot of adversity tonight. We had some kids injured, but had some other guys step up. And I’m proud of the guys for that.”

Smiths Station 35, Russell County 13
SEALE - The Mark Rose Era continues to roll at Smiths Station (3-0, 2-0 Class 6A-Region 3) as the Panthers won again Friday, beating Russell County.

Robert Frinks rushed for 74 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns to lead Smiths Station, while quarterback Cody Hussey was 9-for-16 passing for 151 yards and two scores.

Roderick Austin caught five passes for 34 yards and a TD. He also had for carries for 19 yards and a score. A.J. Williams caught the other touchdown pass to go along with his four-catch, 79-yard night.

Montevallo 48, Beulah 20
MONTEVALLO - Beulah’s still looking for its first win of the season after losing to Montevallo on Friday night.

The Bobcats drop to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in Class 3A-Region 3.

Andrew Anthony had five carries for 52 yards, while catching two passes for 61 yards and a touchdown for Beulah in the loss. Jordan Wimberly caught three passes for 92 yards and a score, while Justin Harper scored on a touchdown run.

Verbena 34, Notasulga 12
NOTASULGA - The growing pains continue for Notasulga, as it lost its third game of the year Friday night.

However, the Blue Devils’ defense has been a bright spot.

Mathias Wallace had 23 tackles Friday night. He also forced a fumble and had a fumble recovery. D.J. Bentley had nine tackles, while Jeremy Holley had eight tackles and a fumble recovery.

Offensively, Notasulga was led by Steven Ricks, who was 9-for-25 passing for 182 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 38 yards and threw an interception. Eric Pollard had three catches for 130 yards and three rushes for 11 yards in the loss.

Derek Hart scored the Blue Devils’ first touchdown on a 1-yard run on fourth down.

Glenwood 27, Hooper 14
HOPE HULL - Special teams and the run game carried Glenwood against Hooper on Friday.

Kevin Benham blocked a punt and Stevie Argo scooped it up and returned it 55 yards for the score.

Also for Glenwood (2-1, 1-1) Marcus Woods had 23 carries for 160 yards and a touchdown, while Dudley Taylor had 14 carries for 122 and a score. Taylor also threw a touchdown pass to Arthur Williams.

As a team, Glenwood rushed for 296 yards. The Gators racked up 392 total yards for the game.

Ballard 54, Cumberland 34
MARIETTA, Ga. - Ballard scored 28 unanswered points in the second half to keep its record perfect Friday with a win over Cumberland Christian in Marietta, Ga.

Ballard trailled, 34-26, at halftime before blowing things open in the second half. The Eagles scored eight pionts in the third and 20 in the fourth for the lopsided win.

Ballard, in its first season with an Eight-man team, improved to 5-0.

Kyle Hammock completed 8-of-16 passes for 165 yards with a touchdown and rushed for a touchdown.

Jud Butler had 150 yards receiving and a touchdown and 96 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Jacob Hall rushed 13 times for 128 yards and a touchdown, and also had an interception on defense.

Judson Scott also had a touchdown, returning an interception 30 yards for a score.

Ballard will play at Trinity Christian next Friday in Sharpesburg, Ga.
