AREA ROUNDUP: Lee-Scott crushes Evangel, moves to 5-1

MONTGOMERY — Lee-Scott cruised to its fifth consecutive win, beating Evangel Academy, 49-0, on Friday night.

Trey Moreman threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Shane Corbett for the first score. Corbett also ran for a 3-yard touchdown. William Webster caught a 53-yard screen pass for a score.

Also adding touchdowns for the Warriors were Tyler Reynolds, Aaron Sanderson and Brad Zellner, an offensive lineman that was put at fullback for that one play.

Lee-Scott (5-1) will head to undefeated No. 4 Pike Liberal next Friday for a tough matchup.

“We’ve gotten better each week,” LSA head coach Robert Maddox said. “Offensively, each week, we’ve been able to expand. And the kids have responded well to that.

“Just looking at us as a team, we’ve steadily improved. We’re playing with a lot of emotion and we’ve just got to keep it going.”

Trinity 42, Beulah 0
MONTGOMERY — Beulah is still looking for its first win of the season after falling to Trinity on Friday night.

For Trinity, Jack Poundstone rushed for three touchdowns, while Brandon Scarborough scored twice and Mark White scored once.

Beulah (0-6, 0-4) had 87 yards of total offense in the game.

The Bobcats travel to B.B. Comer next week.

Glenwood 35, Lowndes Academy 21
LOWNDESBORO — Glenwood earned its fourth win of the season Friday night, knocking off Lowndes Academy.

Leading the way for the Gators (4-2, 1-2) was Marcus Woods, who rushed for 173 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns.

Quarterback Dudley Taylor had 46 yards on 10 carries and threw for 75 yards on 5-of-12 passing. He also had a 65-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Arthur Williams rushed for 91 yards on five carries and a score, while catching three passes for 36 yards.

Glenwood will play at Macon-East next Friday.

Evangel Christian 60, Ballard 20
HOOVER — Ballard’s 8-man football team ran into a tough Evangel Christian squad Friday night, giving the first-year Eagles their second loss of the season.

“This is a team that’s been playing 8-man for six or seven years,” Ballard head coach Buddy Hammock said. “They dressed like 35 people and they have a good football team. I knew we were going to have to play extremely well to even play with them.

“They were just a real strong team. You can tell it was a six-year program against a one-year program. The team didn’t give up. The second half we actually played a lot better.”

Ballard quarterback Kyle Hammock finished 12-of-16 for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Jacob Hall had 35 yards on seven carries and a score. For Ballard on defense, Jordan Rumfelt had 12 tackles, while Kyle Hammock and Jud Butler had seven apiece.

Ballard (6-2, 2-2) will host Heritage Christian next Friday.

Beulah volleyball downs B.B. Comer
Beulah volleyball beat B. B. Comer, 3-2 (25-12, 24-26, 29-27, 16-25 and 15-12), on Thursday night.

Michelle Taylor led the Bobcats with 10 kills and seven aces, Cassie Messer had four kills and 10 aces and Jorden Simpson had four kills and two aces.

Beulah’s JV team lost to B.B. Comer, 2-0 (23-25, 7-25). Ashley Carroll had five aces for the Bobcats, while Haley Geiger had three aces.

Beulah will travel to Opelika on Monday for a tri-match between the Bulldogs and Prattville.
