Trevor McCullough, QB, Springwood
Year: Sophomore
Ht./Wt.: 5-8, 155
About McCullough: The sophomore Valley transfer — whose father also played at Valley — has been a key offensive cog in Springwood’s resurgence this year. McCullough, an FCA president and — to his knowledge — a 4.0 student, has passed for 583 yards and six touchdowns this season to go along with 447 yards and eight scores on the ground for the 4-2 Wildcats.
What he did: McCullough was 6-for-10 for 112 yards and three scores and also ran for two scores, all in the first half of a 49-21 road win over Sparta Academy last week. It his most passing scores in a game this season and the third time he’s run for two scores.
In his words: “We picked it up there in the second quarter, and we turned it on. The line and receivers just did a great job. They kept it going all night, and we were able to pretty much do what we wanted in that second quarter.”
In his coach’s words: “It starts with the character and leadership qualities he has. I mean, he’s our Tim Tebow. He walks the walk, talks the talk, and every day he comes in ready to practice. You just don’t find that very much.” — Springwood coach Ronnie Sikes
