TUSKEGEE — Calvin Jenkins came out early in Auburn High’s 49-14 win against Booker T. Washington on Friday.

Breathe easy, Tiger fans.

Auburns senior quarterback didn’t suffer an injury. He wasn’t needed past the first quarter.

Jenkins stayed in long enough to lead the offense to four touchdown drives on its first five possessions.

Jenkins’ only contribution in the second quarter was a handoff to Augustus Brooks, who took it 12 yards for the score. Brooks finished with two rushing touchdowns.

With 11:24 to go in the second quarter, Jenkins called it a day.

He enjoyed the win just long enough to pose for a picture holding up 10 fingers, signifying Auburn’s second straight 10-0 regular season.

So the Tigers celebrated the victory and their first back-to-back undefeated regular seasons in school history.

But the celebration didn’t last long. Auburn coach Tim Carter declared this season over.

“It’s a second season now and everyone’s 0-0,” Carter said. “We need to continue to play at a high level because the playoffs are a whole different ball game.”

Jenkins reiterated his coach’s sentiment.

“We have to focus on next week,” he said about Week 1 of the playoffs. “We got to keep fighting now. It starts all over, its like Week 1.”

Jenkins went 5-of-7 for 102 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for a 38-yard score, his 12th rushing touchdown of the season.

The Tigers led 35-0 at halftime.

Each of Jenkins’ backups, Will Campbell and Cameron Luper, threw a touchdown pass in relief. Throw in an 82-yard kickoff return by Dequavious Cobb for a score, and Auburn’s bench players played most of the second half.

“We’ve been lucky this year, because we’ve gotten our second- and third-string guys to play a lot,” Carter said. “It’s a good experience for them, but the playoffs are a whole different ballgame now.”

Cobb also intercepted his seventh pass of the season, setting up Auburn’s third touchdown of the first quarter.

BTW scored two touchdowns in the second half, but couldn’t get much else going on offense.

Auburn hosts Robert E. Lee in Week 1 of the playoffs next Friday.

Congratulations. Hopefully we’ll be able to beat Prattville in the third round of the playoffs this year. Last year was painfully disappointing and cold. Good luck Auburn Tigers! Keep a level head and keep looking forward.

Congrats Tigers on yet another undefeated regular season—the 9th in Auburn High football history.  This isn’t the first back-to-back undefeated Tiger football squad, however; the 1918 and 1919 teams also went unbeaten, though the 1918 season was abbreviated due to the Spanish flu pandemic.

It’s all 0-0 now though.  Keep your eyes on the prize and let’s bring home a blue map.
