HAYNEVILLE — Will Garner ran for 144 yards and two touchdowns to lead Lee-Scott in a 30-13 win over Lowndes Academy on Thursday.
Tucker Carl picked off two first-quarter passes to set up touchdowns, including one of his own. Carl made a one-handed catch on a 33-yard TD pass from Trey Moreman to make it 20-0 with 1 second left in the first quarter.
“That was a sweet catch,” Garner said. “He makes those catches all the time in practice and it shows in the game. Trey threw a good pass and Tucker made a great catch.”
Garner had touchdown runs of 9 and 21 yards to cap Lee-Scott’s first two possessions. Carl intercepted a pass on the game’s first play and the Warriors (6-4) used a 12-play, 52-yard drive that took more than six minutes to take the lead.
Lee-Scott led 23-0 after Michael Jensen kicked a 37-yard field goal with 6 seconds remaining in the first half. Moreman’s 3-yard sneak late in the third quarter pushed it to 30-0.
“It’s good to go into a place with so much tradition like Lowndes and come away with a win,” Lee-Scott coach Robert Maddox said.
Moreman finished 11-of-17 passing for 110 yards, while Carl had seven catches for 47 yards. Chris Garner ran for 113 yards on 10 second-half carries.
Tyler Bozeman had 129 yards rushing on 12 carries, including a seven-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter for Lowndes (7-3).
Both teams will be on the road next week for AISA playoff games. Lee-Scott travels to Bessemer Academy in Class AAA in a rematch from a regular-season game that Bessemer won, 17-10. Lowndes visits Southern Academy in Class AA.
