AREA ROUNDUP: Auburn Thunder goes to state

The Alabama Youth Soccer Association will host the Division I State Cup beginning Nov. 6 at Jack Allen Park in Decatur. 

The best U16 women’s soccer teams in the state will compete for the title, which will be decided over a two-weekend period. 
In the U16 division, the following teams have qualified for the championship tournament:  Auburn Thunder, BUSA 94 Elite, Huntsville FC Girls 94 Blue, Mobile Soccer Club 94G Blue, Briarwood Lady Ambassadors 94, and the Decatur Raptors G94.

Auburn Thunder will play Briarwood on Friday, Nov. 8, then BUSA Elite the following Sunday.  The other participants will also play the first weekend.  The top four teams will return to compete for the championship.  The final game will be held on Sunday, Nov. 15.

Local players on the Auburn team include Kayla Vaughn, Nikki Turnbull, Paxton Templin, Courtney Staton, Sydney Smith, Elizabeth Price, Jane Gray Price, Laura Nall, Bethany Kuerten, Peyton Kendrick, Allison Kam, Kelly Joiner, Lauren Jones, Abby Jones, Blakely Heideman, Lacy Grand, Kate Duke, and Leah Cook. 

This team finished the regular season with a 9-3 mark which included a championship in the Thunder Road Soccer tournament.
