David Morrison joins the Opelika-Auburn News as the prep sports reporter.

Morrison graduated from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in June of last year. He served as the sports editor of Northwestern’s student newspaper, the Daily Northwestern, during his junior and senior years. He also interned at the Birmingham News from August through December, covering mostly high school and small college sports.

“I’m excited to join the News’ sports staff,” Morrison said. “I’m looking forward to covering preps in a community that values its sports so highly.”

Morrison also served as a sports intern at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Wilkes-Barre Citizens’ Voice.

“We’re extremely happy to have David join our team,” sports editor Mike Szvetitz said. “David is a talented writer with a passion for high school sports. We can’t wait for him to get out in the community and continue bringing our readers the prep coverage they’ve become accustom to.”

Morrison, 22, was born in Orlando, Fla., and graduated from Winter Park High School in 2004.
