NFL: Herring to make first start
Associated Press
Seattle’s Will Herring recovers a fumble during the Seahawks’ win over St. Louis on Sunday. Herring, an Opelika native and former AU star, will make his first start this week.
Former Opelika High School and Auburn University standout Will Herring will start at linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks this weekend, according to a story in the Seattle Times.
Herring, who was drafted in the fifth round by the Seahawks in 2007, has spent his career playing on special teams. Now, he’s going to be the No. 1 weakside linebacker in the lineup against San Francisco. He’s filling in for Leroy Hill, who will be out at least five weeks with a groin injury.
“I’ve come a long ways in a short time,” Herring told the Seattle Times.
Herring was a three-year starter at quarterback for Opelika. He also started three years on the Auburn University defense.
