ATLANTA — John King of Saugahatchee Country Club in Opelika was named one of the Top 50 Kids Teachers for 2007 by U.S. Kids Golf.

Golf professionals who focus on developing young golfers in their communities make up the fourth annual listing of Top 50 Kids Teachers as chosen by U.S. Kids Golf. The Atlanta-based company manufactures golf equipment and develops instructional programs and competitive events for kids. The announcement came at the 2008 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla.

King, who learned the game from golfing great Ken Venturi, operates a year-round program that includes after-school instruction, golf camps and tournaments.

Dan Van Horn, founder and president of U.S. Kids Golf, said King and the other professionals inducted into the America’s Top 50 have made a “commitment to helping kids not only learn the game of golf, but also develop a love for the game that lasts far beyond their days in junior golf.”
