DIXIE YOUTH ROUNDUP: Opelika American tops Beulah

UNION SPRINGS — Opelika American took control of the Dixie Youth AAA (9-10) Sub-District 2 Tournament with a 13-3 win over Beulah on Saturday.

Hunter Swindall was the winning pitcher, and Joseph Nixon was 2-for-2 with a double. Hunter Weygand was 2-for-3.

Opelika American defeated Beauregard, 8-5, on Friday night behind Tanner Blatt on the mound.

In the losers bracket game Saturday, Beauregard defeated Union Springs, 11-0.

Gabe Young pitched a no-hitter in the win for Beauregard.

Trevor Williams led Beauregard at the plate, batting 2-for-2 with a double and four RBI. Hunter Hinson was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI and Trevor May was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Beauregard and Beulah will meet Monday in an elimination game, and the winner of the game will face Opelika on Tuesday.

Auburn 13s win slugfest over Wetumpka
MONTGOMERY — Auburn took a 14-11 win over Wetumpka on Saturday in a Dixie Boys (13) District Tournament game.

Marshall Hartzog was 3-for-4 from the plate and Stephen Naughton was 3-for-3 to lead Auburn. Matthew Evans, Tez Brooks and Seth Taylor all had two hits.

Austin Williams got the win on the mound and Naughton got the save.

Auburn will face AUM today at 8 p.m.

Auburn Majors cruise past Southern
MONTGOMERY — Behind a nine-strikeout performance from Scott Norrell and a grand slam and five RBI from Drew Hull, Auburn cruised to a 10-0 win over Southern in a Dixie Majors (17-19) District Tournament game Saturday.

J.B. Edgar and Harry Haring also had home runs, and Drake Sasser was 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Auburn will face Montgomery American today at 7 p.m.

Opelika Belles defeat Beulah in
Brooke Langford, Kathlene Gorman, and Allie May combined to throw a five-inning no-hitter as Opelika defeated Beulah, 11-1, on Friday night at West Ridge Park in a Dixie Belles Sub-District Tournament game. 

Opelika was led at the plate by Tiesha Williams with three RBI and Jasmine Syndor with two RBI.

Opelika National tops LaFayette in Sub-District
VALLEY — In the first round of the Dixie Youth AAA (9-10) Sub-District 1 All-Star tournament, Opelika National beat LaFayette, 12-2.

Kent Bugg, who pitched the first two innings, striking out five, earned the win. Jackson Grigsby threw the final two innings and struck out four.

At the plate, Blake Yountz was 2-for-2, while Bryant Norell was 2-for-3. Bugg, Grigsby, Aly Smith, Noah Traylor and Jackson Allgood each had hits for Opelika in the win.
