DIXIE ROUNDUP: Opelika Majors take win at Sub-State

MONTGOMERY — Opelika’s Dixie Majors (11-12) All-Stars need just one win Saturday to advance to state, and they got it early.

Opelika took a 12-2 win over Luverne, avoiding a potential playoff with White Plains to emerge from the Sub-State tournament with the No. 2 seed.

Opelika will play in the state tournament in Lincoln beginning July 25.

Doss Arnold got the win on the mound with a four-inning no-hitter, striking out eight and walking four.

B.J. White led Opelika at the plate, going 2-for-2 with three RBI, including a two-run home run. Bennett Whitman also hit a two-run homer.

Winston Smith T was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Tanner Blatt was 2-for-3, while Chase Hegwood, Matthew Christian, Arnold, Gage Keel, Berry Dudley and Kent Bugg all had hits for Opelika.

Auburn falls to Dothan on Saturday night
DOTHAN — Auburn’s Dixie Jr. Boys (13) All-Stars dropped a 7-1 decision to Dothan in the first game of the state tournament on Friday night.

Justin Carter had three hits to lead Auburn.
