OXFORD, Miss. — Bianca Thomas scored 16 points and Elizabeth Robertson had 14 as reserves led Mississippi to a 76-68 win over Auburn on Thursday night.
The Rebels (11-14, 5-7 Southeastern Conference) reserves, led by Thomas and Robertson, outscored Auburn’s bench 38-5, spurring an easy win over the once-ranked Tigers (18-8, 6-5).
Ole Miss also got 12 points each from starters Shawn Goff and Shantee Black.
Sherrell Hobbs scored 25 for Auburn and DeWanna Bonner had 20 points and 10 rebounds. But she also had 10 of Auburn’s 24 turnovers. Ole Miss only had 14 turnovers and converted Auburn’s miscues into 17 points.
With Kentucky’s at LSU earlier in the night, the Tigers, who had won five of six entering the game, had a chance to move into the No. 4 spot in the SEC standings, but a 20-3 run to close out the first half keyed the win for the Rebels.
Ole Miss led 37-26 at halftime and never trailed in the second half despite several attempted Auburn rallies.
The Tigers, who need two more conference wins to assure themselves a spot in the Women’s NCAA Tournament, will hit the road for a key SEC contest this weekend when they face Georgia on Sunday in Athens, Ga.
Auburn defeated the Lady Dogs, 82-52, in Auburn earlier this season.
