Men’s Golf wins John Burns Intercollegiate
WAHIAWA, Hawaii — The No. 15 Auburn men’s golf team shot a 19-under 269 to win the John Burns Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,916-yard Leilehua Golf Course on Friday.
The Tigers set school and course 54-hole records with a 44-under 820.
“We had a really good mixture today,” said head coach Mike Griffin. “We birdied the hard ones and the easy ones. Our guys did a great job of taking advantage of the easy holes. To shoot 19-under, you’ve got to hit a lot of birdies, and that’s what we did.
“We learned a little bit about ourselves today. Right now we’re not worried about anything but winning this tournament. We’ll think about the next one tomorrow.”
The Tigers were led by senior Jay Moseley (68-204) and junior Glenn Northcutt (67-204), who both tied for fourth individually. Senior Jamie Bowen (65-209) who tied for 17th, shot the lowest 18-hole total of any Tiger in the tournament with a 7-under third round. Senior Steven Groover (69-209) also tied for 17th followed by junior Cole Moreland (72-213) tied for 42nd.
The win is Auburn’s first win since the 2007 Seminole Intercollegiate and its first in the John Burns since 1996.
