The Dadeville softball team will begin its quest for a state championship today at the AHSAA State Softball Tournament at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.
The Tigers (30-15) will kick off the state tournament at 10 a.m. with a date with Lawrence County.
Dadeville was a semifinalist last season, falling in the losers bracket final to eventual state champion Alabama Christian.
Locals compete in Pitch, Hit and Run Competition
The Aquafina Pitch, Hit and Run Competition, hosted by Dads on the Ball, a men’s sport ministry of Providence Baptist Church in Opelika, was held this past Saturday.
Winners in the 7-8-year-old division were Jalen Miller of Opelika (Pitching, Running and All-Around Champion) and Brooks Fuller of Auburn (Pitching and Hit Champion).
Winners in the 9-10-year-old division were Cody Dunn of Cusseta (Pitching and All-Around), Austin Blackmon of Opelika (Pitching, Heath Senn of Opelika (Hitting and Running) and Heath Huff of Auburn (Hitting).
Ryan Johnson (11-12) and Chandler Mulvaney (13-14), both of Beauregard, won Pitching, Hitting, Running and All-Around honors in their age groups.
Winners will now compete in the Sectional competition, to be held at Doug-Tew Baseball Park in Dothan on Saturday.
Section All-Around Champions become eligible to qualify for the TEAM Championship, to be held later this year.
