REELTOWN — Reeltown continued its stellar season by taking out Fultondale, 28-0, in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs on Friday.
The Rebels (10-1) will host American Christian (10-1) next Friday in the second round.
After a scoreless first quarter, Reeltown got on the board in the second with Anarius White scoring back-to-back touchdowns.
The first was a 3-yard run, followed by a 2-point conversion to give the Rebels an 8-0 lead.
Then, White went 49 yards for his second score. On the run, White cut behind a key block, zig-zagged through the defense, breaking numerous tackles, and motored to the end zone.
Fultondale answered right back on its next possession, taking the ball all the way down to the Reeltown 5-yard line.
A score looked promising until Fultondale quarterback Desmond Clopton was intercepted by Reeltown’s Jacory Smith, who returned the ball 29 yards.
Reeltown rode that momentum into the locker room, leading 15-0 at halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter, Reeltown went back to work.
Rebel receiver Dara Riley snatched a 14-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter. And even though the 2-point conversion failed, Reeltown was up 21-0.
The next drive by the Wildcats was a short one, as the Rebels defense stiffened and got the ball back for the offense, which wasted little time finding the end zone.
Willie McKenzie scored from 8-yards out for the final touchdown of the game.
“It feels good to move on this time of the year.” said Reeltown head coach Jackie O’Neal. “It’s what the playoffs are all about.”
The Rebels finished with a total of 335 rushing yards in the win.
