SYLACAUGA - Jordan Wimberly tipped in a Justin Harper miss at the buzzer to give Beulah a thrilling, 73-72 win over B.B. Comer in an early Class 3A-Area 8 game for both teams.
The win also helped Beulah get the sweep over Comer as the Bobcat girls win, 37-25, earlier.
For the Beulah boys (3-0, 1-0 Area), Wimberly finished with 22 points and Harper had 20.
Jartinez McCants and Dylan Aikens eached had 12 points.
On the girls side, Ariel Underwood and Victoria Richardson eached had 10 points. Richardson had a double-double with 12 rebounds to go along with her 10 points.
Iesha Crutchfield added 8 points and 12 steals and Torri Alsobrook had five steals for Beulah (4-1, 1-0 Area).
Both Beulah teams play at home against Wadley next Tuesday.
Lee-Scott sweeps Evangel tourney
MONTGOMERY - Lee-Scott’s basketball teams had little trouble capturing both Evangel Thanksgiving Tournament titles on Tuesday.
LSA’s boys won the title by beating host Evangel, 44-28. The Warrior girls also win with a dominant, 52-9 win over Prattville Christian in that title game.
For the boys, Alex Layson was the only Warrior in double figures with 12 points. He also earned MVP honors.
Micah Pointer added 10 rebounds.
Jessie Washington led LSA’s girls with 16 points while Melissa Maddox chipped in 14.
Both LSA teams moved to 4-0 on the year.
Opelika sweeps Valley
VALLEY - Opelika’s basketball teams picked up a road sweep over Valley on Tuesday.
Opelika's boys won, 73-67, while the Bulldog girls won, 55-29.
On the boys side, Jacoby Payne had 16 points for the Bulldogs (3-0), Tae Calloway had 15 and David Thomas had 10.
Alicia Beasley led Opelika's girls (5-2) with 17 points, Jasmine Cannon had 11 points and six steals, Kayla Whatley had 10 points and seven rebounds and Kieara Dexter had 9 points, nine assists and six steals.
Both Opelika teams host Jeff Davis next Tuesday.
But in a change from the norm, the boys will play first at 5:30 p.m. followed by the girls game.
Opelika's JV boys fell to Valley, 44-43 in triple overtime.
Jamari Robinson had 15 points to lead Opelika while Jamario Mitchell had 7.
Auburn sweeps Beauregard
Auburn High’s basketball teams moved past Beauregard on Tuesday in a two-game sweep.
Auburn’s boys won, 65-56, with the Tiger girls winning, 42-38.
On the boys side, Will Walker led Auburn (3-0) with 18 points followed by 11 each from Stephen Boyt and Jason Webb.
Eric Dowdell led Beauregard with 16 points and Meno Reece had 11.
For Auburn's girls (3-2) Tarnesha Stephens had 12 points and Olivia Cook had 10.
Beauregard got 11 points from Valeeta Bellamy.
Auburn’s boys open play at the Sneakey Pete’s Rebels Classic today in Birmingham against Spain Park. Both Auburn teams return to the court together next Tuesday at Benjamin Russell.
Auburn’s JV boys took a 59-17 win over Beauregard.
Jeremy Nolen had 12 points for the Tigers nad J.D. Woods had 10.
Ballard rips Golden Acres
Kyle Hammock scored 22 points as Ballard remained unbeaten with a 78-31 win over Golden Acres.
Ben Causland added 10 points, Codi Sturkie had 8 points nad 13 rebounds and Judson Butler had 8 points and 12 rebounds.
Ballard (4-0, 2-0 Area) plays next Friday at White Creek Christian.
Ballard’s JV team also won Tuesday, 39-32, over Golden Acres.
Judson Scott had 20 points and 10 rebounds, David Good had 9 points and nine rebounds and Joseph Sullen had 6 points and 15 rebounds.
Glenwood slips past Lakeside
Dudley Taylor and Dalton Dempsey each scored 17 points as Glenwood’s boys got past Lakeside, 56-53, to improve to 3-1 on the year.
Smiths Station wrestling wins
SMITHS STATION - Smiths Station’s wrestling team took a 47-18 win over St. James on Tuesday in a dual meet.
Winners for the Panthers were Dalton Miller (103), Anthony Green (112), Trevor Slappy (125), Andrew Wilkins (130), Tim Hester (135), Ethan Chancellor (145), Rob Ducker (171), Colby Miller (189), Josh Odom (215) and Kimone Bates (HW).
Smiths Station wrestles agaon on Dec. 2 against Wetumpka and Elmore County at home.
