Auburn’s High’s varsity volleyball team knocked off Wetumpka on Thursday to finish the year tied with Benjamin Russell for the Area title.
The Tigers (18-13, 5-1) will now prepare for the Area Tournament which begins Tuesday at CACC.
Thursday, the Tigers downed Wetumpka in three games, 25-8, 25-16 and 25-13.
Hayden Pangle have five kills, two aces, two digs and a block, Tarnesha Stephens had nine kills and three digs, Leah Zutter had two kills, 22 assists, an ace and six digs and Tiffany Radnitz had a kill, six aces, two assists and two digs.
Smiths Station wipes out Beulah
SMITHS STATION — Smiths Station needed four games to take a match win over Beulah in a non-classification battle.
Beulah took Game 1, 25-21, but it was all Panthers from there as they won, 25-14, 25-18 and 25-13 to finish the match.
Smiths Station honored its two seniors, Vannessa Peterson and Elizabeth Fowler on the night.
For Beulah (4-16), Michell Taylor had six aces, a block, two digs and a kill. Jorden Simpson had an ace and two kills, Cassie Messer had two aces, Meagan Thomas had two aces and a kill, Mikesha Stringer had an ace, Caressa Coulter had an ace and Oliva Martin had six blocks and two kills.
Smiths Station (20-3) plays in its Area Tournament beginning Monday at a to-be-determined site.
Beulah will play B.B. Comer on Monday at 5 p.m. to open Area Tournament play in Dadeville.
Auburn sweeps Jr. High CC meet
SMITHS STATION — Auburn’s boys and girls captured the Chattahoochee Valley Cross Country Junior High Championship title Thursday at Smiths Station.
In the boys meet, Auburn had two teams with Auburn White taking first with 36 points. Auburn Blue was second, Smiths Station was third and Beauregard was fourth.
In the girls meet, Auburn White was first followed by Enterprise in second, Auburn Blue in third and Smiths Station in fourth.
Individually for Auburn’s boys, Jackson Carter was first overall with a time of 10:09.
Elliot Hagans was fourth, John Strother was sixth, Alex Hosey was eighth and Jacob Dresher was 10th, running for Auburn Blue.
Auburn’s girls were led by Lauren Jones who finished first in a time of 11:32.
Jenna Muschara was fourth, Janine Smiths was fifth, Abby Farrow was sixth, Katie Duke was seventh, Francis Beasley was eighth and Autrey Eastman was 10th.
For Beauregard, Zack Sollie finished 7th and Seth Belcher finished 9th in the boys competition.
Susie Thomas had the best result on the girls side for the Hornets.
Auburn 8th grade wins on the road
SMITHS STATION — Noro Datiri’s 43-yard interception return for a touchdown proved to be the deciding play in Auburn 8th grade’s 12-7 win over Wacoochee on Thursday.
Khalel Leonard had a touchdown run and went for 100 yards on the night.
Marquin Mtchell capped the game with an interception.
Auburn 8th grade (3-2) plays at Millbrook on Tuesday.
Auburn 7th grade blanks Wacoochee
SMITHS STATION — Auburn Jr. High’s 7th-grade team dominated Wacoochee’s 7th-grade, 26-0.
Selwyn Torbert had a fumble recovery on the first play of the game and brother Delwyn Torbert had a 12-yard touchdown run.
Rashawn Evans added a 56-yard touchdown pass to Antreal Allen, Jadarious Drummond had a 40-yard interception return for a score and Dalton Wahl had a 30-yard touchdown run.
Auburn’s 7th graders (5-0-1) play at Millbrook on Tuesday.
Sanford Middle squeaks out win
BEAUREGARD — Sanford Middle School beat Valley, 16-8, Thursday in 7th-grade play.
Eddie Washington had 120 yards rushing for Sanford who ended its season with a 4-1 record.
