DEMOPOLIS — Tallassee swept a road doubleheader against Dempolis on Friday to advance to the second round of the AHSAA Class 5A playoffs. The Tigers won the first game, 7-0, and the second game, 3-2.
Trey Cochran-Gill picked up the win in Game 1, throwing a complete-game shutout while allowing only two hits and striking out nine.
Hunter Mullins was 2-for-4 with four RBI, Cochran-Gill was 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Brad Stone and Darius Williams each drove in runs.
Cochran-Gill also drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh in Game 2, plating Williams with an infield single.
Channing Ellis was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run in Game 2, and Davis Knapp was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Jade Glass picked up the win, going all seven innings and allowing two runs on four hits with four walks and six strikeouts.
Tallassee (16-17) will play at No. 7 Beauregard (29-8) in the second round Friday. The Hornets swept the Tigers in three games during their area schedules.
Reeltown advances
MAPLESVILLE — The Rebels swept a road doubleheader against Isabella on Friday to advance to the second round of the AHSAA Class 2A playoffs. Reeltown won the first game, 11-7, and the second, 16-2.
Michael Langford went deep for the Rebels in Game 1, and Shelby Flurry picked up the win on the mound.
Kyle Tauton got the win in Game 2, and Jacob Coan and Kalen Waver both hit home runs.
Reeltown (15-10) will either travel to area opponent Zion Chapel (20-9) or host St. Jude (4-10) in the second round Friday.
Poka heads to Game 3
TALLADEGA — No. 10 Loachapoka lost Game 1 to host Talladega County Central, 15-8, on Friday before winning the second, 15-14, and sending the series into a third game today for the right to advance to the second round of the AHSAA Class 1A playoffs.
Game 2 was suspended after five innings with the Indians (9-5) winning, and the game was later called in their favor.
Loachapoka and the Tigers (10-6) play today at 9 a.m. in the clinching game.
