KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Auburn’s divers wrapped up the Tennessee Diving Invitational on Monday with juniors Kelly Marx and Dan Mazzaferro going 1-2 in the platform competition.
Marx posted a score of 406.55 for the win with Mazzaferro right behind him, scoring 393.00 points.
“I am very pleased, especially on the men’s side with Kelly and Dan stepping up big time,” said Auburn diving coach Jeff Shaffer. “It was nice to see some of the SEC competition ... It gave us a pretty good indication of where we stand and what we need to work on to get ready for SECs.”
Also competing in the men’s platform was senior Scott Morgan. He finished eighth with a score of 271.15. On the women’s side, freshmen
Vanessa Dantin (215.40) and Anna Aguero (213.25) competed, finishing eighth and 10th, respectively.
The platform competition marked the end of the three-day meet. Marx and Mazzaferro led the Tigers in the meet, finishing in the top 10 in all three events. In the 1-meter, Marx finished fourth with Mazzaferro in ninth and in the 3-meter, it was Mazzaferro in third and Marx in fourth.
The Auburn divers return to action this week as the swimming and diving teams host national powerhouse Texas on Thursday at 3 p.m. at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center.
