VALLEY — Trey Woodham got out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth inning and set Tallassee down in the bottom of the sixth to give Auburn Orange a 5-1 win in the second round of the Dixie Youth AAA (9-10) All-Star District 10 tournament at the Valley Sportsplex on Tuesday.
Woodham finished off what Kason Howell and Andrew Naismith started. Howell pitched the first two innings, striking out three, and Naismith struck out four over the middle two.
The three combined to give up one run on three hits. In two district games, Auburn pitching has surrendered only one run on four hits in 10 innings.
Auburn took the early lead with three in the first, then tacked on one each in the second and third to build a 5-0 lead.
Tallassee came back with a run in the fifth, then loaded the bases and sent the tying run to the plate with two outs. But Woodham forced a groundout to third to end the threat.
Rowdey Jordan scored two runs for Auburn, and Travis Rabren was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Will Green had a two-run single, Naismith had a hit, a run and an RBI, and Howell and T.J. Scott also scored for Auburn.
Brady Beasley doubled and scored Tallassee’s only run. Jacob Wisener and Cole Flurry also had hits for the home team.
Auburn moves on to play Smiths Station tonight at 7:30, while Tallassee drops into the consolation bracket to play Valley tonight at 6.
