SMITHS STATION — Beauregard had the tying run at the plate, the heart of its order coming up and two outs to make two runs and avoid elimination against Dadeville in the Dixie Youth Majors (11-12) All-Star District 10 tournament Thursday.
While the makings were there, they just didn’t go Beauregard’s way.
Dadeville pitcher Corey Lowe forced a groundout and a pop out from Beauregard’s No. 3 and 4 hitters to seal a 4-2 win.
Dadeville moves on to face Valley in another elimination game tonight at 6, while Beauregard’s season ends.
Beauregard started off the scoring in the top of the first, with Brandon Knowles coming around on an error.
The home team tied it up in the bottom of the inning, as Drake Hall hit a two-out single to plate Cal Jones.
Dadeville took the lead for good in the second inning, when Will Duffey hit a solo home run to lead off and give the home team a 2-1 lead.
It extended its lead to 4-1 in the fourth, with Hall scoring on an error and Duffey driving in Jack Stephenson with a ground out.
Walker Meadows hit a solo shot in the top of the sixth — the second night in a row he had done that — to bring Beauregard within two before Lowe finished off the game.
The visitors had plenty of chances to cut into Dadeville’s lead throughout the game, stranding eight runners over six innings.
Beauregard’s best chance came in the fourth, when Hunter Hillyer and Hank Scott led off the inning with singles.
But Hall struck the next batter out, then snared a line drive back through the box and doubled Scott off first to end the threat.
Hall came on in relief of Stephenson, who pitched the first two innings, and threw two scoreless innings before handing it off to Lowe.
Hall also had a hit, a run and an RBI at the plate. Duffey was 1-for-2 with a run and two RBI, Jones had a double, Stephenson had a hit and a run, and Kyle Harkins added a single for Dadeville.
Hillyer was 2-for-2, Knowles was 1-for-2 with a run, Austin Mitchell had a double, and Scott and Dylan Smith each added singles for Beauregard.
