BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Auburn’s Candace Schepperle carded an 8-over 79 Sunday in the final round of the 2009 U.S. Women’s Open, finishing 70th overall out of the 156-player field with a tournamt-total 22-over-par 306.
Schepperle, a Birmingham native, struggled on the front nine with four bogeys and a double bogey for a 6-over 42 at the turn. She posted three more bogeys on the back nine, but birdied No. 18 to finish the day at 8-over.
The rising senior carded a 2-over-par 73 in the first round, her best round of the tournament, and followed up with a 78 in the second round to make the cut. She posted a 76 in Saturday’s third round before wrapping up the tournament Sunday with a 79.
South Korea’s Eun Hee Ji came from behind in the final round with an even-par 71 to take the tournament title with an even-par 284.
