Auburn landed its eighth commitment for the 2010 class late Monday night when three-star cornerback Jonathan Mincy announced his pledge to the Tigers.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Mincy hails from Decatur (Ga.) SW. He turned down offers from LSU, Tennessee, Michigan, Miami, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Maryland to pick the Tigers, according to AuburnSports.com.
“I really felt comfortable in that environment last time I went to Auburn (June 12). I knew it was just a matter of time then,” Mincy told the Web site. “I really felt a lot of support from the coaches and I also felt real comfortable around the players.“
Rivals.com has him as the 25th ranked cornerback nationally. Scout.com ranks him 40th.
Mincy is the third Auburn commitment from the 2010 class to hail from Georgia and the first to play in the defensive backfield.
QB Rollison eligible
One of the top recruits of the 2009 class, quarterback Tyrik Rollison, has been approved by the NCAA Clearinghouse and is enrolled at the school, according to AuburnSports.com.
Rollison, along with 11 other scholarship freshmen, is going through Camp War Eagle this week and will begin summer classes next Monday.
Rollison, a Sulphur Springs, Texas, native, led his high school to the Texas Class 4A Division II state championship, as he threw for 4,728 yards and 51 touchdowns and ran for 1,094 yards and 12 touchdowns in his final season. Rivals.com ranked Rollison as a four-star recruit and the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the nation.
He is expected to have a shot at the starting quarterback job when camp opens in August, albeit a small one.
“We’re going to give everybody a chance. He’ll have a chance coming in here to win the job,” offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn said in April. “It’ll have to be fairly quick and we’ll have to make a decision fairly quick so we can get reps with our main guys.”
