Beulah’s Kyler Fender and Trevon Brown combined to no-hit Valley in a 13-0 opening-round win of the Dixie Youth Major (11-12) District 10, Sub-District 3 All-Star tournament at West Ridge Park.
Fender struck out four in his two innings of work, while Brown struck out three in the final two innings of the four-inning, mercy-rule win.
The tandem faced just one batter over the 12-batter minimum, allowing just two Valley batters to reach base — R.J. McDonald reached on an error in the third inning. Two batters later, Valley’s River Hadaway hit into a fielder’s choice, forcing McDonald out at second base.
Beulah took a 4-0 lead into the fourth inning, scoring one each in the first two frames and then three in the third.
Then, in the fourth, the Beulah All-Stars combined for nine runs on six hits to put the game out of reach.
A leadoff double by Collin Rudd, followed by three consecutive singles by Cole McClelland, Lanier Gleaton and Christopher Johnston sparked the inning in which Beulah batted around.
McClelland led Beulah at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Caleb Boone was 2-for-3 with two runs scored as well.
Valley will play Ladonia at 6 p.m. tonight in the second round of the three-team, round-robin tournament. Beulah will then play Ladonia at 6 p.m. Monday. The top two teams from Sub-District 3 will advance to the District 10 tournament on July 8 at Smiths Station.
