DIXIE YOUTH: Smiths Station AAAs beat Beulah

»  Comments | Post a Comment

VALLEY - Smith Stations’ Garrett Barr went the distance Friday, allowing just two hits and striking out six to help his team to a 12-2 victory over Beulah in an opening-round game at the DIxie AAA (9-10) District 10 Sub-District 3 double-elimination tournament.

The help was reciprocal for Barr, of course, as the offense behind him scored runs in all five innings.

Tyler Cadenhead led the game off with a triple before coming around to score on the next at-bat. Anthony Ward also scored a run to give Smiths Station an early 2-0 lead.

Beulah came right back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Christian Gillespie led of with a single and came around to score. Dalton Thrower walked and came around to score, also.

Smiths Station took the lead for good in the second, though, when Tyrique Fuller came around to score. It extended its lead with two more runs from Cadenhead and Ward in the third inning.

Smiths Station added six runs in the fourth inning on three hits, two hit-by-pitch and a walk before tallying one more in the fifth to end the game.

Cadenhead finished 3-for-3 with three runs, Jonah Herring went 2-for-3 and Jacob Carroll went 2-for-2 for Smiths Station. Trent Posey and Fuller also scored two runs.

Turner Cordarious singled for Beulah in the second inning.

Smiths Station will face Auburn Blue in the second round of the winners’ bracket today at 7:30 p.m. at the Valley Sportsplex.

Beulah will take on the Dadeville All-Stars in an elimination game at 6 p.m.
