Loachapoka guard Jontavius Willis was named Lee County Player of the Year and Indians coach Terry Murph earned Coach of the Year honors from the varsity basketball coaches of Lee County.
Nine players were selected to the All-County Team.
Joining Murph and Willis from Loachapoka were Tommy White and Quindravius Richardson.
Smiths Station was represented by Sebastian Thomas and A.J. Williams, Eric Dowell and DeWone Scott made the team from Beauregard and Justin Harper and Jordan Wimberly earned All-County honors for Beulah.
Beulah’s Jartinez McCants and Loachapoka’s Marvin Hunter and Patrick Moore were named Honorable Mention.
Lee-Scott falls at Border Wars Tourney
COLUMBUS, Ga. — Lee-Scott’s baseball team opened the Border Wars Tournament with a 4-3 loss to First Presbyterian (Ga.).
Brad Young was the losing pitcher after giving up three runs on seven hits with three walks.
Trey Moreman pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
The Warriors were led at the plate by Micah Pointer, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI, Garrett Dyas, who drove in one run, and Jace Harper, who had a hit.
The Warriors will face Greater Gwinnett tonight at 7 at Golden Park.
AHS girls golf finishes 2nd at tourney
GADSDEN — Auburn High’s girls finished second at the Gadsden City Invitational Tournament on Thursday, notching a score of 251, just six shots behind tournament winner Prattville.
Mia Lee led the Tigers with an 80, and Coleman Humphrey (84) and Jessica Rouillard (87) were the other scores counted for Auburn.
Melanie Ray had an 88 and Kendall Trupp had a 91.
Auburn High will face Harris County (Ga.) at Calloway Gardens on Monday.
Notasulga softball gets past Loachapoka
NOTASULGA — Whitney Hughley picked up the win on the mound as Notasulga defeated Loachapoka, 16-14, in an area softball matchup Thursday.
Ashley James was 1-for-3 from the plate for the Blue Devils, and Natasha Williams got the save.
Chantal Hall got the loss for the Indians.
Lee-Scott tennis sweeps Lakeside
Lee-Scott’s boys and girls tennis swept past Lakeside Academy on Thursday.
On the girls side, Hannah Fisher, Sonam Sayania, Mary Margaret James, Bailey Beckwith and Sarah Coleman picked up singles wins, and Fisher and Sayania and James and Beckwith got the doubles wins.
The LSA boys got wins from Hayden Gunter, Taylor Hardy, Will Hester and James Diskin, and Gunter and Hardy and Hester and Diskin got the doubles wins.
LSA will face Kingwood Academy on Tuesday.
AHS tennis dominates Prattville Thursday
The Auburn High School boys and girls tennis teams defeated sectional rival Prattville on Thursday.
The girls won, 8-1, and the boys won, 9-0.
Both teams stand undefeated at 5-0. The boys extended their match record to 45-0.
The AHS boys and girls defeated Benjamin Russell High School on Wednesday.
Auburn JV sweeps doubleheaders
Auburn High’s JV baseball team improved to 9-0 with doubleheader wins over Prattville on Wednesday and Benjamin Russell on Thursday.
In the wins over Benjamin Russell, Mitchell Roland, Andrew Pinyan and Russell Melton all had multiple hits and RBI. Will Campbell was 2-for-3 with four RBI, and Judson Harrison homered.
Against Prattville on Wednesday, Jordan Hembrick and Kyler Deese each had three RBI in the first win.
AJHS dominates PCIS
Morgan Starr pitched a perfect game through four innings as Auburn Junior High took a 21-0, mercy-rule win over Phenix City Intermediate School on Thursday.
The Tigers (6-0) open play in the Auburn Spring Invitational today.
