1) The 6,582 fans in attendance Tuesday night were about as loud as 20,000 in the game’s final minutes. Though it wasn’t the largest crowd of the season and wasn’t even close to the 12,000+ that showed up for an Auburn women’s basketball game earlier in the season, it was the hands down the most involved of the season.
2) Former Auburn football player Jackson Timmerman – better known as Tony Franklin’s signal-man/arm-flapper – made his presence known at Tuesday’s game. A proud member of Lebo’s Banditos, Timmerman sumo wrestled in a fat suit during halftime.
3) Baylor might have the most insightful and experienced student manager in Division I college basketball. David Wesley, who played in the NBA for 15 years, is back at his alma mater working on his undergraduate degree in physical education. He’s served as one of the more vocal presences on Baylor’s predominantly quiet bench.
4) Baylor is playing about as well as any team in the NIT right now. Its mix of consistent shooters and slashers, along with a strong presence on the glass, makes it arguably the most balanced team remaining.
5) Losing Rasheem Barrett, Quantez Robertson and Korvotney Barber will be tough for Auburn to overcome next season. The three players emerged as reliable players every game. Talent is certainly waiting in the wings with DeWayne Reed, Tay Waller and Lucas Hargrove set to become leaders, but it’ll be tough to set high expectations for the 2009-10 team.
