AHSAA STATE TRACK MEET: Harris completes goal of three titles

GULF SHORES — The trifecta is complete.

Lanett’s James Harris, who won the Class 2A 400m boys title on Thursday, followed the performance up with two state championships — and two state records — in the 200m and the high jump on Friday at Gulf Shores.

Harris clocked a time of 21.83 in the 200m, breaking the previous state record of 22.04. Then, in the high jump, Harris soared 6 feet, 10 inches, breaking his previous state record of 6-08.50.

Lanett’s boys finished third in the Class 2A meet with 75.50 points, 32.50 points behind first-place Mobile Christian. Cold Springs finished second with 83 points.

Also in Class 2A, the Reeltown boys placed 17th (10 points) and the girls 19th (6 points). American Christian Academy won the 2A girls state title with 189.50 points.

In Class 1A, Loachapoka’s boys finished 11th with 18 points, while the girls placed 12th with 15 points. Cedar Bluff won both the boys and girls state championships, scoring 127 and 156.50 points, respectively.

In Class 3A, Dadeville’s boys finished 13th with 16 points, while the girls were 11th with 23 points. The LaFayette boys took 24th place (2 points) and the girls were 16th (14 points). T.R. Miller won the boys state title with 140 points, while Altamont won the girls title with 95 points.

Loachapoka’s athletes who placed were: Anissa Lewis in the girls 100m (3rd — 12.75) and 200m (4th — 27.49); Sharqwice Williams in the girls 3200m (8th — 17:18.75); Kwanarrien Lynch in the boys 800m (5th — 2:11.24).

Lanett’s other placing athletes were: Antavious Bussey in the boys 200m (4th — 23.38); Mike Hall in the boys 3200m (5th — 11:40.07); the boys 4x100m team (3rd — 45.27); the boys 4x400m team of Bussey, Checo Cheeks, Kordelrus Morgan and Deontrelle Silmon (2nd — 3:31.67); Steven Ayeni in the boys discus (3rd — 120-03.50); Nirobi Huguley in the boys discus (6th — 104-09.75).

Reeltown’s athletes who placed were: Twonisha Moore in the girls 100m (5th — 13.25) and 200m (7th — 28.50); Willie McKenzie in the boys 110m hurdles (3rd — 16.51); Blake Wyatt in the boys javelin (134-10).

LaFayette’s athletes who placed were: Lauren Moody in the girls 200m (5th — 27.14); Matekia Marbury in the girls 100m (7th — 17.84) and the javelin (6th — 93-11); the girls 4x100m relay team (4th — 52.44); Justin Higgins in the boys long jump (7th — 19-08.50).

Dadeville’s athletes who placed were: Cynteria Jones in the girls 100m (2nd — 16.74); the girls 4x400m relay team of Jurlyn Jones, Milira Marbury, Ebone Shaw and Karmesha Thomas (2nd — 4:22.84); the girls 4x800m relay team of Jones, Marbury, Shaw and Thomas (6th — 11:12.45); Jerime Beck in the boys 800m (6th — 2:06.88); Tariz Walker in the boys discus (120-06.25).
